A sailor finds himself lost - marooned in between worlds. Not anchored to land or sea, life nor death. His captor is a beautiful and terrible monster. This story was written to a prompt, where the first sentence and final sentence had to be exactly the same. It's influenced by the sea, whose ebb and flow leads everything back to one place.

As a fun promotional item, Jennifer wrote a flash story of how she dies for the conventions she attended. These were printed out on postcards and given out to fans and friends. This story was written for and given out during the SASQUAN / WORLDCON in 2015.

This was my first published ghost story, written for a book of ghost stories produced by the Liverpool City Council in 1986. It subsequently appeared in my first collection, Day-dreaming on Company Time (Five Island Press, 1988)— a Readercon Award runner-up in the Best Collection by a Single Author category.
