The cigar tip glows scarlet as Barry inhales. Smoke filters out of the side of his mouth and climbs like a beanstalk into the dark. It's a full moon tonight, though you wouldn't know it down here. There's only the fluorescent glare from the platform, lighting the flanks of the four white horses. They whinny conspiratorially, pawing the earth, one of their hooves striking sparks off a rail. Their nervousness shivers through loosely held reins.
