From the author: The orchard is the only world Mavari has ever known. But being the favorite of the Father/God comes with a price she isn't certain she wants to pay. When outsiders shows up on the weavers' doorstep, Mavari must choose between serving the Father/God or revealing her secret. Originally appeared in Gaia: Shadow & Breath Vol. 3.


Like crystal-studded tulle, Mavari thought as she sat under her favorite yumyao, watching the morning fog rise from the orchard's bay and mist the rows of gauze-shrouded trees. Sunbeams danced with water droplets strung along individual strands of spider silk, setting the trees a glitter. Her fingers played along a low-hanging web--wake up, wake up. It's not yet overwinter.
