Here is my friends house. People woke up and these two were preparing breakfast. This scene is so crowded I just waited for the right moment so that people were hidden behind the wall and no one was passing by.

“I’m taking back oven mitts,” I write on the kitchen chalkboard, right below “Buy eggs.” Bulky and butter-stained, the apple-print mitts protect us from heat. The timer dings and I pull one half-on. As I turn the heavy pan, the exposed, pale twig of my wrist falls on heat anyway. Damn! I immerse it in room-temperature water. My temperature rises.

If we need household personal protective equipment, it’s not for our hands.We’ll put on eye shields against selective blindness and chest armor...
