For many years, back when I was still stuck deep in a pit of being unable to write, I read and re-read the same books over and over. Two of those books that I kept on my bedside constantly were The Iliad and The Odyssey (Robert Fagles' translation). I know people have various reactions to those books, but for me, they were literally page-turners, even when I knew how they ended.
