After thirty-seven years as a US Army pathologist, commander, and staff officer in the Pentagon, I took off my uniform, gained fifteen pounds, and started writing. My debut novel, A Knife in the Fog, involves a young Arthur Conan Doyle in the hunt for Jack the Ripper, and was a 2019 finalist for the Edgar Award for Best First Novel. Book two, Queen's Gambit, is scheduled for release in October 2019. When not killing people on the page, I am a professional Santa Claus and work with my wife of almost forty-six years at a local park as the the Clauses. I've shared hugs, and some tears, with people from all over the world, averaging eighty-thousand or more visitors per year. I'm a soft touch, however.
