Kátia Bandeira de Mello-Gerlach, a NYU Law graduate, is a Brazilian fiction writer residing in New York City for the past twenty years. Her first two books of short stories were published by Projeto Dulcinéia Catadora, an art collective, part of the Latin American cartonera movement. A 2017 Fellow at the New York Foundation for the Arts Program for Immigrant Artists. Kátia contributes to literary journals in Brazil and Portugal, including Revista Philos, pnetliteratura.pt e Jornal Rascunho. “Collisions in Particles, a Bestiary” was published in 2015 and as “Colisiones Bestiales” in Spanish by Diaz Grey Editores @ McNally and Jackson, New York in 2016. “Blessed Games, Cursed Follies” was published in 2017. In 2018, Kátia published two short story anthologies dealing with Latin American issues, including urban violence. Kátia is the 2019 Across Borders writer guest of honor at the international literary festival Flipoços in Brazil. The author often participates in international literary fairs and events, provides workshops (www.worksofimagination.com) and lectures (Columbia University, West Point Academy, Sorbonne, University of Lisbon, among others).
